Cyclic voltammetric analysis of antioxidant activity in citrus fruits from Southeast Asia
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The aims of this work were principally two-fold: first, to show that cyclic voltammetry is a simple, cheap and practical method for determining antioxidants in citrus fruit juices; second, to evaluate vitamin C in four species of citrus fruits. Two are known world wide, the lemon, Citrus limon (L.) Burm.f., and the lime, Citrus aurantiifolia (Christm.) Swingle, and two are principally but not exclusively found in Southeast Asia where they are of economic importance, the sweet lime, known in Malay as limau manis and the musk lime, limau kasturi. Juices from all the citrus fruits contained antioxidants with the principal one being equivalent to vitamin C at concentrations of 1.3 mM in limau manis, 1.4 mM in limau kasturi, 1.5 mM in limau kapas and 1.8 mM in lemon. It was also evident that the citrus fruit juices contained one or two additional antioxidants, although their presence was variable. The use of differentiated recording gave greater resolution of the additional antioxidants.

Phytochemical analysis and radical scavenging profile of juices of Citrus sinensis, Citrus anrantifolia, and Citrus limonum
BACKGROUND The aim of the current investigation was to identify bioactive secondary metabolites including phenols, tannins, flavonoids, terpinedes, and steroids and compare the phytochemical analysis and antioxidant profile of the juice extracted from the fruits of Citrus sinensis, Citrus anrantifolia, and Citrus limonum. RESULTS Phytochemical screening is important for the isolation of new, ...
متن کاملEffect of Putresine and Methyl Jasmonate on Antioxidant Responses in Peel and Pulp of Orange (Citrus sinensis L. var. Valencia) Fruit
This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of putrescine and methyl jasmonate on lipid peroxidation and altering the peroxide hydrogen of peel and pulp of Valencia orange fruit. Orange fruits were treated with 0 (control), 2.5 and 5 mM putrescine, and 0 (control), 10 and 20 µM methyl jasmonate, then stored at 5±1 °C, 85-90% relative humidity for four months. Oranges treated with 5...
متن کاملInfluences of Brassinosteroide and Hot Water on Postharvest Enzyme Activity and Lipid Peroxidaion of Lime (Citrus aurantifolia L.) Fruit During Storage at Cold Temperature
Storage of Lime (Citrus aurantifolia L.) fruits, originally a tropical fruits, in low temperature confronts with several difficulties due to the risk of chilling injury (CI). To develop an effective method aiming to reduce CI, the effects of treatments containing 0, 0.5 and 1 Mg/lit brassinosteroids (BRs) and hot water (HW) including 20°C as control, 45 and 55°C for 30 minute on CI was studie...
متن کاملTraditional Small-Size Citrus from Taiwan: Essential Oils, Bioactive Compounds and Antioxidant Capacity
Background: The calamondin (Citrus microcarpa Bunge) and the kumquat (Fortunella crassifolia Swingle) are two small-size citrus fruits that have traditionally been consumed in Taiwan; however, there has been a lack of scientific research regarding the active compounds and functionalities of these fruits. Methods: Analysis of volatile composition of essential oil and phytosterol was carried out ...
متن کاملComparative Nutritional Analysis and Antioxidant Activity of Fruit Juices of some Citrus spp
Fruit juices of four species of Citrus genus i.e. C. maxima, C. limon, C. sinensis, C. reticulata were analyzed for their nutritional content (i.e. soluble sugar, total RNA & pentose sugar, free amino acids, soluble protein, total phenolic compounds and vitamin-C) and antioxidant potential. The content of all studied parameters varied from one species to another but no specific trend was observ...
